Year of Biodiversity 2018 - Butterflies at Ness Botanical gardens

Phil Putwain has collaborated with the enthusiastic and now expert wildlife volunteers at Ness Botanic Gardens since 2009.  We have recorded butterflies each year along a fixed transect covering the wilderness area and part of the ornamental gardens.

The survey results for 2017 are shown in the table below.  We are fortunate to include the rare Wall butterfly  and record a newish colonoser  of Wirral - Ringlet for the third successive year.
